Program overview

Minds in Motion® is an inclusive and welcoming dementia-friendly program for people living with early to moderate signs of dementia and their care partners. It is a space to move, engage, connect.

This province-wide program runs for eight weeks, with weekly two-hour sessions that pair physical activity with social connection. Each session begins with 45 minutes of gentle chair fitness, followed by coffee and conversation and ends with interactive games. Care partners are required to attend.

Enjoy the benefits of staying active.

Staying active when you have early to moderate signs of dementia helps maintain physical and mental health. Here are some of the ways Minds in Motion® can benefit you:


Fitness

  • Stay active with a 45 minute gentle chair fitness class.
  • Improve balance, mobility and flexibility.
  • Help maintain brain health and slow the progression
    of dementia.

Conversation

  • Connect with others living similar experiences.
  • Remove the barriers of social isolation.
  • Strengthen social connections to maintain good mental health.

Activity

  • Engage in fun activities such as board games, bocce ball, trivia and more.
  • Challenge your brain
  • Build cognitive function and help maintain brain health.

FAQ

Up to 11 pairs (22 participants) can attend.

The program costs $65.

Each session is two hours.

Fitness runs for 45 – 50 minutes, followed by coffee/conversation for 30 minutes and games for 40 minutes.

A certified instructor leads fitness and ASM staff and volunteers lead the rest.

We have bocce ball, floor curling, axe throwing, Words in Word, trivia and conversational games.

You should bring a water bottle and indoor shoes.

Minds in Motion® runs in winter, spring and fall, but is subject to change depending on the location.
