Leaving a legacy of hope: the power of your Will

You can create a lasting difference for families living with dementia by making a gift in your Will.

The impact your Will can make

Leaving a charitable gift in a Will turns the ordinary donor into an extraordinary philanthropist, and a growing number of Canadians are giving in this way.

Ronald Jackson

In late 2019, Ronald Jackson passed away suddenly at age 74. He left generous gifts to several charities in his Will, including the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Ron was a cattle rancher from Langruth, Manitoba. He loved to fish, hunt, garden and bake. Feeding his family and friends and working hard for his neighbours and community were important parts of life for Ron. His sister, Barbara, believes Ron’s love for the people close to him inspired the gifts he left in his will.

“Our mother had Alzheimer’s — she and Ron were very close. That’s why we think he left a gift to the Society,” Barbara explains. “It was hard for him to see her facing dementia and the changes it caused. She didn’t recognize most people after a while, including me. But she always knew Ron when he came to visit and would ask how his garden was doing.”

Ron’s gift allowed the Society to remain an accessible support for Manitobans throughout the COVID-19 pandemic — this alone had a tremendous impact. But his gift continues to make a meaningful difference today, helping to fund the Society’s programs, education and support, giving so many people facing a dementia diagnosis somewhere to turn.
