Inspiring the future of dementia research
Each year, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba partners with the University of Manitoba to award graduate fellowships valued at $5,000 each to two graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding interest or commitment to dementia research.
Award Eligibility
The Graduate Student Fellowship Award is offered to encourage graduate students’ interest in dementia research, specifically to:
- Stimulate graduate student research activity in dementia
- Enhance knowledge about the cause, treatment, cure and effects of dementia in the biomedical and psychosocial domains
- Increase knowledge about the care of people living with dementia by formal and informal caregivers
2025-2026 Award Winners
The two graduate students receiving funding this year are:
- Alexandria Delaney – Their project, Families’ Thoughts and Strategies Around Securing the Future of Care, examines what older family caregivers in Maniotba think about succession care planning and how different levels of agency and resources shape whether older family caregivers engage in succession care planning or thinking.
- Chelsea Lukawy – Their project, Targeting NUDT5 to modulate neuroinflammation in Alzheimer’s Disease, evaluates N5i1, a brain penetrant NUDT5 inhibitor, for its therapeutic potential in in vitro and in vivo Alzheimer’s disease models.
