What is Dementia Care Partner Essentials (DCPE)?

DCPE is a six-part in-person education series featuring Teepa Snow’s Getting to Know Dementia: Community Training Kit, where you will learn learn foundational topics to help you better understand and care for someone living with dementia, as well as how to use visual, verbal and touch cues to approach and connect with a person living with dementia.

In this series, you will:

  • See the difference between typical aging and dementia-related brain changes.
  • Identify what abilities are lost and what remains and learn supportive ways to respond.
  • Understand how dementia progresses.
  • Recognize how your approach affects the person you’re caring for — and how your approach can positively impact your relationship.
  • Practice hands-on skills to create a positive relationship with the person living with dementia using Teepa Snow’s Positive Physical Approach™.
  • Find out what healthcare and community supports and resources are available through the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

Who should attend this series?

You should attend this series if you are a care partner of someone living with dementia looking for hands-on education to enhance your problem-solving skills and approaches in day-to-day caregiving situations, no matter your level of experience.

Where: Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota St, Winnipeg
