It’s National Caregiver Day
Celebrating the strength, compassion and resilience care partners show every day
April 7 is National Caregiver Day
Honouring Canadian carers
For every person living with dementia, there are often several care partners walking alongside them. Care partners play such an integral role in navigating dementia — offering their time and energy in ways both seen and unseen.
Through the many changes and challenges dementia brings, care partners are a steady source of support for the person they care for. We see the depth and importance of this role every day, and recognize the strength it takes to face dementia with compassion and resilience.
Connecting over coffee & care

You may recognize the “Coffee Ladies” from some of the previous stories we’ve shared over the past months. This group of women are all care partners for their husbands, who live with dementia.
Every week, Lynn, Irene, Judy, Bev, Alison and Josephine bring their husbands to the Alzheimer Society for a support group. Then together, they head across the street to a local coffee shop where they share their experiences as care partners and find comfort in being understood.
The friendship between these women grew naturally, shaped by a shared understanding of what it means to care for a partner living with dementia.
We want to highlight this group of inspiring women on National Caregiver Day and celebrate the power of community. Connecting with other caregivers who understand dementia can make such a difference in your path forward.

Lynn’s story
“Some days you feel like you’ve got things under control. But on the days you don’t, it’s so helpful to know that the Society is there.”
