EI information

  • Benefits overview
  • Applying for EI
    • Application – EI
    • There is a start application button at the bottom of the page, please read privacy statement before proceeding
    • Service Canada offices have public access computers and staff that can answer questions if someone needs help
    • An application can be done over the phone with the Outreach Support Centre
      • Call 1-877-631-2657 between 8:30am and 4:00pm local time
      • If someone is more comfortable with a language other than English of French they can ask for an interpreter to join the call free of charge
      • Ideal of anyone who faces barriers accessing or using technology

General Information

    • Benefit finder for individuals
    • A tool to find all provincial and federal benefits that a person may be entitled to. Great way to find other supports available.
  • My Service Canada Account
    • My Service Canada Account (MSCA) – Canada.ca
    • It is recommended to have an online account with Service Canada to manage an EI claim.
    • MSCA is not mandatory but you can see your payments, update your personal information, see your ROEs and do much more
    • If you need a Personal Access Code (one time code to set up account) I would suggest putting in an e-Service Request (see below) or visiting a Service Canada

    • A Service Canada agent will the requestor back in 2 business days – no waiting on hold!
      • Can book an in person appointment at an office
      • Can issue Personal Access Code for MSCA
    • Write down the confirmation number from the request and have the agent read it back to you when they call to be sure you are talking to Service Canada before giving our any of your personal information
    • The agent will call from a blocked or unregistered number
    • After 2 failed attempts to reach you, the request is closed
      • Submit a new request if you still need help
  • Visiting a Service Canada
    • You can make an appointment using an eService Request or come as a walk in
    • It’s the same staff answering eService Request and in office – they can help with all the same things
    • Staff can make certified true copies of any documents for our programs so you do not need to mail in originals

  • CPP & OAS: 1-800-277-9914
    • The call centre is staffed by specialist that work with complex questions and cases
      • Try in-person or e-service request first – they will refer you to the specialists if needed
    • Callers can look up daily and weekly average wait times here!
      • Best times to call are during the mid-week and mid-day.
